Scenes from the Flying Pig BBQ

See the band up there on the porch? We couldn’t get anyone in the crowd to talk to us—they were too busy enjoying the amazing food.
Here’s Claudia with her new granddaughter Scarlett.

Here are the children, painting pumpkins.

The Presiding Bishop at St. Dunstan’s

The day before the ordination of our new bishop Robert Wright, the presiding bishop Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori visited St. Dunstan’s to meet with clergy of our diocese.

Patricia motioned me in from the back where I was trying to be discrete while still getting a professional shot with my iphone. She knows I am a big fan of the presiding bishop. Two years ago, with Patricia and Nancy, Vicki and her girls and many others from St. Dunstan’s, I received communion from the presiding bishop at St. Phillip’s. I’ve since read some of her writing in books and sermons, which are truly inspirational, but being in her presence, I think you feel a certain strength and calm.

I had been talking to Steve Mark in the vestibule—he had already been there for two hours helping Michele Smither set up a coffee reception before the talk. It’s a little like having THE queen bee in your midst—we smiled at each other. “I was trying to explain to Conner who she is,” Steve confided. I think in the end the description was something like the “She Pope.” Here’s a link to her homepage.
